Since early 2010, Mark slowly began to express in interviews his intention to release a solo record with longtime friend Eric Friedman.  Later in the year he also mentioned including Garrett Whitlock on drums.  As Mark’s references to this potential project became increasingly frequent, speculation continued to grow, and in December Eric Friedman confirmed that the project would begin in early 2011.

Mark met Eric at a guitar trade show many years ago, describing him as a “prodigy” who was already endorsed by Fender at age 16, and was impressed by his abilities.  Eric was “the little brother Mark never had,” and they became friends.  Mark later introduced Eric to his friends at Submersed, including Garrett Whitlock on drums, and Eric was soon inducted into the band.  Submersed toured extensively as the opener for Alter Bridge, but later disbanded.  In 2009 and 2010 Mark brought Eric out on the Creed reunion and 20-10 tours, and the pair solidified their plans to work together on Mark’s solo project.

Regarding Alter Bridge and Creed, Mark said, “the bands are so different, and I write so much.  I'm going to do a solo record because there are some songs that I'd hate to think wouldn't see the light of day because they don't work for Creed or Alter Bridge.”  Mark describes the material as hard rock containing much of Mark’s speed metal influence, but still retaining the core of a strong melody.  He will be writing all of the lyrics and singing lead vocals, and will split the bass guitar duties with Eric.

In The Alter Bridge Nation’s interview of Mark in May, he revealed three song names off of the album, including “Proof”, “Decay”, and “Gone”.  He noted that the songs names have not been finalized, so the working titles are subject to change.  He also described his plans to release the album in January, 2012, releasing a couple songs at a time before the full album is released. In Alter Bridge's July Webisode, titled "Downtime", Mark revealed that the album would be released by Fret12.

Throughout the remainder of 2011, Mark continued to drop hints about the album in interviews, and his team provided regular updates via their Twitter pages. He described that his solo record will see an unconventional release via Fret 12, whereby two songs will be released digitally every month, before the full album drops later in the year. The release will also be accompanied by guitar tablature, fully transcribed by Mark for maximum accuracy. The album will contain 11 guitar solos, and the band will be called "Tremonti".

On January 20, 2012, Mark tweeted a link to a brand new website dedicated to the solo project: www.tremontiproject.com. The website revealed the working song titles listed in the fact sheet above, and allows visitors to sign up for a Tremonti solo project mailing list.

News will be posted here as it is revealed, with the newest updates at the top.

In an interview for Artist Direct, Mark provided an update on the progress of the solo album:

How is the solo record coming along?

I'm going off to the NAMM convention. When I get home, I'll hopefully get into the studio to finalize all of the tracking. I've done all my parts; I just have to go make sure what I hear back is exactly what needs to be there. I may rewrite a chorus or verse I have to re-sing. Other than that, my tracking is done. We have to get Eric, the other guitarist and backing vocalist, to do all of his vocals. In February, we mix for a couple of weeks, try to get it mastered, and hopefully out in March or April. I'm singing all of the stuff. Hopefully it turns out alright [Laughs].

What's the direction of the album?

It's a dynamic record. It's probably heavier than either Creed or Alter Bridge, but it's still melody-driven. Most of the stuff is more up-tempo and heavy-riffing though. I had to write eleven solos for this record so it took me a long time. There's lots of soloing.
